Hayden took an impressive flag-to-flag win ahead of Yamaha Factory riders Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.

Hayden, in what was his 38th GP start, grabbed the holeshot and quickly escaped ahead of Championship leader Rossi. The Italian wasn’t able to match the Honda rider’s pace and was eventually beaten by his team-mate Colin Edwards.

Hayden’s team-mate Max Biaggi secured fourth after a fierce battle against Sete Gibernau, who made a blazing start from 13th on the grid to fight for a top 5 result. Troy Bayliss took sixth ahead of Makoto Tamada and John Hopkins.

The first lap of the race was marred by an incident involving Alex Barros and Marco Melandri, with both riders crashing in the last corner leading to the main straight. YEEHAW!
First race is tomorrow. opening round in Jerez. As usual Valentino Rossi will start the season from the pole position.
I cant think of anything else. I will report tomorrow after the race. later

From Motogp.com

Valentino Rossi will start the defence of his MotoGP World Championship title from pole position when the 2005 season gets underway at Jerez on Sunday after a stunning new lap record in today’s qualifying session. Rossi clocked a time of 1’39.419 to overcome the challenge of local hero Sete Gibernau and knock almost one and a half seconds off his previous record, set last season.

"My fast lap was incredible!” smiled Rossi at the end of the single qualifying practice, which this year replaces the previous format of two sessions over the two days previous to the race for the MotoGP class only. “Michelin made a great job with the qualifying tyres – my first one was good but the second was even better. There is a big question mark over the tyre choice for the race tomorrow because after a few laps they start to slide a lot, but it’s the same situation for everyone. Now we’re just looking for good weather tomorrow and hopefully it will be a beautiful race.”

Rossi is not the only person in Jerez keeping their fingers crossed for good weather, with crowd figures expected to top the 125,000 who turned out here in torrential rain last season. Huge local support was on hand today to back Gibernau’s challenge for pole, which fell some 0.496 seconds short of Rossi’s stunning lap time.

Gibernau will attack Rossi from second place on tomorrow’s grid and he will be joined on the front row by Marco Melandri, who will start his first MotoGP race for Honda from third spot. Melandri’s late effort knocked factory colleague and fellow youngster Nicky Hayden back to the second row, where he is joined by Kawasaki rider Shinya Nakano and Ducati’s Loris Capirossi, who rode with a chipped bone in his ankle after crashing in this morning’s free practice.

Makoto Tamada made a late charge to seventh place ahead of Honda colleagues Alex Barros and Troy Bayliss, denying Alex Hofmann a third row start as the German dropped to tenth place on the Kawasaki. John Hopkins battled through a bout of the flu and the effects of a crash this morning to qualify eleventh on the Suzuki whilst Ducati rival Carlos Checa, who is struggling with a shoulder injury, was twelfth.

The surprise of the session came from Spanish rookie Toni Elías, who will make his MotoGP debut on the Yamaha tomorrow ahead of vastly more experienced rivals such as Kenny Roberts, Colin Edwards and Max Biaggi.

New year and new Results. The script was set from the opening race of the season, when a stunning debut from Valentino Rossi on the Yamaha M1 left the motorcycling world rubbing their eyes in disbelief. No rider in the history of Grand Prix racing had ever won back-to-back races on different makes of machinery, but thanks to his victory in the final race of the 2003 season for Honda at Valencia, Rossi had done just that. Just three months after riding the machine for the first time in private tests at Sepang in Malaysia, Rossi went head to head with his greatest rival, Max Biaggi, in what would become an all-time classic race. Some 45,000 fans at the Phakisa Freeway circuit in Welkom, South Africa, bore witness to a classic duel as the reigning World Champion and his arch nemesis battled it out from the first corner to the last. Rossi started from pole and maintained his advantage at the front over the opening laps, pushing to escape from a chasing pack with an electric pace that only Biaggi and Sete Gibernau could follow. As Gibernau lost touch Biaggi took the initiative and attacked his compatriot with several exciting passes, only to be undone by Rossi's own brand of thrilling overtaking. After a brief lull in an energy-sapping bout, when Biaggi gathered his breath and trailed the rear wheel of Rossi to the inch for around ten laps, another frenetic duel sparked into life with six laps remaining. Biaggi was again the aggressor from behind, taking control only for Rossi to strike back within metres - the pair swapping positions until three corners from the end, when Rossi played his final ace and snatched victory from the jaws of the Honda rider.

Motogp.com

Infamous 205mph RC51 Pilot Pleads Guilty

Dude, this is just F*cking Amazing. Ignorant Cops and Judges. A Honda RC51 cannot possibly do 205mph. Cuase its $10k streetbike. Those million dollar Factory prototype bikes just recently broke this record in last few years. It was an amazing year in the Motorcycle racing and as long as I have been actively watching 500cc Grand Prix and Motogp. Valentino Rossi made a bold move at the end of 2003 when he moved from Honda to Yamaha. Everybody was thinking, it will hard for him to win championship. Everybody was expecting him to win few races where Yamaha shines but not the championship. Well, as he shocked the industry and proved to Honda that it’s not just the bike but Rider skills that matter the most. He won the championship. On a different and realistically inferior bike (Yamaha M1) compare to Honda RC211V. Well, Yamaha M1 is no longer a weak bike anymore. Rossi has adapted well to the new bike and made it better to work well for his style. Yamaha M1 is a better bike that it was before and other Yamaha riders can also benefit from it. Honda's RC211V is and remains to be the strongest bike out in the field. Honda has Max Biaggi, Makoto Tamada & Tohru Ukawa, they are great riders, no doubt, but not consistent. Heck, Max Biaggi is no longer a rivalry to Val Rossi either, Biaggi ain't got nothing on Rossi. (Period)
Now, on the other hand, Honda's weapon "Sete Gibernau" is a clear danger to Rossi. Sete has got the skills, consistency and confidence to challenge Rossi to the end. This year he was the only rider that I think would have won the championship. I GOT MY FULL RESPECT FOR HIM. In fact, he is my second favorite rider next to Rossi. He is patient and rides at his 100% all the time. He is does not complain and makes the best of what he has. Bet, he will No.1 on Honda's list to get the Special Factory components. I think he got em this year too. I wish Sete Good luck for next season and he will make the show interesting.

For 2005, lots of riders have switched to diff factories. Carlos checa moved from Yamaha to Ducati. He has already started testing on the new Desmosedici GP5. Ducati let go of Troy Bayliss. Bayliss may move to Kawasaki, not sure. We will find out soon. Repsol Honda's extended their contract with Nicky Hayden (69) for 2 more (05&06) years. They have let go of Alex Barros but have announced yet the new rider. Word is, Biaggi may join Repsol Honda. Don’t know who will join Camel Honda than. Ukawa maybe. Honda desperately wants a Japanese rider to win the championship. Colin Edwards has Left Telefonica Movistar Honda and joined Gauloises Yamaha and is new teammate of Valentino Rossi. Hope he better keep up, cause he will be the 2nd rider on Yamahas list to get special bikes. Rest of the news can be read at www.motogp.com

I would like to add more to my thoughts but can’t find a proper way to express as it is dinner time and I am hungry. LoL

I can’t wait for the 2005 Season. We got time off till April 10 2004. So, we all Motogp Fans have few months to relax. I for myself will be working hard to save up for my new ride. It is still a secret. I won’t talk about it, not until the day I will go out to buy it. Meanwhile I will keep posting and updating this Blog every now and than with new and relevant news.
See ya.

Motogp.com

MotoGP World Champion: Valentino Rossi

Motogp.com

Rossi wins final race at Valencia

Valentino Rossi wrapped up the final race of 2004 season in style. Xaus is now officially the 2004 MotoGP Rookie of the Year, having boosted his tally to 77 points and leaving himself out of reach of closest chaser Alex Hofmann.
“I wasn’t at all happy with the race because I had to save myself from a very difficult situation when I was riding in the group and had to try not to knock anyone off, and I lost a bit of ground doing so,” commented Xaus on Sunday evening.
“I fought back a bit, but the bike was very aggressive and there was an area in which I was losing around a second. It’s a shame because I think that I could have finished the race in a better position. I was really keen to try and get amongst the top five.
“The positive thing is that now I am tenth in the championship and I would love to finish in this position, but whatever happens I think I have shown that I deserve my place here for the next few years.”
Team Manager Luis d’Antin expressed his satisfaction at Xaus’ achievement in what has been a difficult season for the whole squad. “We are happy, because Rubén has taken the Rookie of the Year title and I think he has deserved it,” said d’Antin.
“Furthermore, he has moved up to tenth in the overall classification and I hope that he can defend that spot in Valencia. I also think we can move up a spot in the team’s championship and I’m sure we could so it if we get our riders in the right kind of shape there.”

Courtesy of:

Motogp.com

Valentino Rossi "2004 MOTOGP World Champion"

World Champion. And the interesting part is, this is on different manufacture. He was with HONDA for a while and this year moved to YAMAHA. He did not promise any championship to Yamaha the first year, as the Yamaha M1 was way behind Honda's RC211V, and still is. But rossi proves its not the bike but rider skills that bring home awards. Rossi has got to be the world's best development rider. Yamaha M1 is much better bike than it was last year.

Motogp.com

Gibernau reveals throttle problem

Sete Gibernau had little to say in the post-race television interviews after losing any chance he had of winning the MotoGP World Championship at Phillip Island on Sunday. However, once the dust settled and the Spanish rider had collected his thoughts, he revealed that a throttle problem had hindered his chances of beating Valentino Rossi to victory.
“After two positive practice sessions, today the bike had a problem with the throttle and I struggled for the whole race,” explained Gibernau. “I had to anticipate what was happening with the throttle so I couldn’t focus only on pushing hard to win the race.
“I started leading the race but then I let Valentino overtake me because I wanted to study him and see where I could gain some tenths. The last lap was an incredible battle between me and Valentino.
“I’m disappointed more because of this problem that didn’t allow me to race as I wanted. Anyway, races are like this. We showed once again to be very competitive and we have given an incredible show, as we have done all the season.”

Motogp.com

Rossi takes title for Yamaha at Phillip Island

.
Valentino Rossi became the first rider to win the MotoGP World Championship on a Yamaha since Wayne Rainey in 1992 with his eighth victory of the year at the Cinzano Australian Grand Prix. Rossi completed an amazing first season with the Japanese factory after a controversial switch from their great rivals Honda at the end of last year with an exciting victory over Sete Gibernau, his only remaining title challenger, which went right to the final corner.
Rossi becomes only the second rider in history to win the championship with different manufacturers in consecutive seasons behind Eddie Lawson and has broken Lawson and Rainey’s joint record of seven wins in a season for Yamaha.
“This is a fantastic day for us, we didn’t expect this,” said Rossi, who adds to three previous MotoGP titles as well as the 125cc and 250cc crowns. “It was a hard battle, Sete was very fast today but in the end I won. From the very beginning we have worked hard to put the Yamaha M1 at the top and we have achieved it today. I would like to say thanks to everybody at Yamaha for all their hard work.”
Rossi’s joy came at the end of a hard-fought race which saw Loris Capirossi take the holeshot before an aggressive move from Gibernau gave the Spaniard the lead on the first lap. Rossi was passed by Troy Bayliss for third place and had to work hard to recover ground on the Ducati pair and overtook them both in one stunning move on the first lap. Gibernau made his break at the front but, with Rossi now on course for the title in second place, needed another rider to join in the fun at the front.
Alex Barros provided brief hope, passing Capirossi for third place as Bayliss lost touch and making a charge towards the pair at the front. However, the Brazilian struggled with rear grip problems in the second half of the race and couldn’t maintain his pace, eventually dropping back to fifth behind Capirossi and Colin Edwards.
Gibernau had no choice but to try and force Rossi into a mistake and rode bravely to the end, conceding first place on lap nineteen but staying in touch and recovering the lead five laps from the end. The Spaniard held on until the final lap but Rossi was determined to celebrate his title in style, recovering superiority two corners from the end and clinching victory by 0.097 seconds.
Whilst Capirossi completed the podium and Edwards came through to snatch fourth from Barros at the line, Nicky Hayden came out on top of Honda colleagues Max Biaggi and Makoto Tamada in an intense skirmish for sixth and Troy Bayliss scored ninth in his last MotoGP appearance at his home track for Ducati.

Current standing points.

Rossi type='text'>BOMBSHELL: Biaggi joins Rossi at back of the grid.

Max Biaggi has become the second rider, after world champion Valentino Rossi, to be dropped to the back of today's Qatar Grand Prix grid after his Camel Honda team was also found guilty of illegally cleaning their grid spot last night.

Rossi was handed a six-second penalty, to be added to his qualifying time, after some of his Gauloises Yamaha team members were apparently seen performing burn-outs on a scooter at the Italian's eighth placed grid slot (see seperate story).

Biaggi has now been given the same penalty after his team were judged to have washed the Roman's twelfth place grid slot clean.

Because Biaggi qualified slower than Rossi he will now start 22nd and last with the #46 one place ahead of him. In order to avoid any other rider benefiting from the either of the 'cleaned' grid slots, they are not expected to be used in this afternoon's MotoGP race.

Biaggi starts the event third in the championship battle, 32-points behind second placed Sete Gibernau and 43-points in front of Alex Barros.
Courtesy of: www.crash.net

BOMBSHELL: Rossi penalized – will start last!

Rossi penalized – will start last!

World championship leader Valentino Rossi has been dropped to the back of today's Qatar Grand Prix grid for illegal grid cleaning.

While Rossi was not directly involved, some members of his factory Yamaha team were apparently caught preparing his eighth placed grid slot last night by the use of a scooter 'burning out' its tyres.

Any such grid preparation is illegal and, after a protest by rivals teams, Rossi - who holds a 39-point world championship over Sete Gibernau heading into the event - has been given a six-second qualifying time penalty that has dropped him to the back of the 22-rider grid.

With the dusty racetrack extremely slippery off the thin racing line, Rossi - second fastest in the warm-up - now faces a serious test as to how far he can advance up the order this afternoon.

Title rival Gibernau will start today's race third.

Courtesy of: www.crash.net

Rossi happy with race set-up at Qatar.

Valentino Rossi happy with setup despite qualifying in eighth place. He will start from third row.
Rossi said:
“I’m happy because we set the bike up well today and we had a good rhythm with the race tyre,” explained Rossi. “Unfortunately I finished eighth because I had a problem to use the qualifying tyre. I also went straight on in the last corner towards the end of the session and so lost about five minutes as I had to go back to the garage.

“It’s a shame because starting from the third row will make life difficult tomorrow as it will be hard to overtake. We have about one-and-a-half metres where there is a clean line and outside that there is no grip because of the sand.

“We’re probably going to make some small modifications tomorrow morning, but it is going to be a difficult race for us.”

Courtesy of: www.motogp.com

Final Qualifying for Qatar.

MotoGP Final Qualifying:

1. Top riders on the grid are so close to each other in points, you never who is going to win.

Points standing for 2004 season with 2 races remaining.
Regis Laconi 295
James Toseland 291
Chris Vermeulen 282
Noriyuki Haga 254

Last week in Imola after Race 1 , CV was leading laconi by 1 point. Before Race 2 , he had some problem with Bike 1 so he took Bike 2 but crashed during warm up. Possible cause, COLD TIRES. He lost rear at the first corner. Giovanni Bussei (spelling) gave him ride back to pit, CV got Bike 1 and joined the race with last position. GUY RODE THE HELL OUTTA BIKE EVEN THOUGH HE WAS HURT. Came from 26th position to 6th position. AMAZING. He maybe be very well have the potential to be next Valentino Rossi.

I wish this Rider "Chris Vermeulen" my very Best.
until next race, CHILL. :)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://motogp2005.blogspot.com/2004/09/new-blog-worldsbk.html' title='New Blog. The newly-built racetrack, which cost $58 million USD and took just over a year to construct, plays host to the inaugural Marlboro Grand Prix of Qatar this weekend, making Qatar the 27th country to host a round of motorcycle racing´s premier World Championship since it began at the Isle of Man back in 1949. The opinion of the riders was that the impressive new venue, which rises almost mystically out of the flat desert surrounding the capital city of Doha, could become a major fixture on the MotoGP calendar and expressed their desire to take on the challenge with their 990cc prototype machines in Thursday morning´s first free practice session. Current World Champion Valentino Rossi was here for the laying of the first stone last December and was taken aback by the work which has been completed since then. `The last time I was here there was no asphalt, only gravel, but we went around the track for the first time in the car this afternoon and the track is very impressive´, said Rossi. `The surface is understandably a little dirty but it should clean over the course of the weekend. It will be interesting to see who learns the track the quickest´. Despite the novelty of the new surroundings, however, the Italian was quick to stress that his focus for this weekend remains on the thirteenth round of a series which he leads by 39-points over closest chaser Sete Gibernau with just four races remaining. `We have three races over the next three weekends and it will be hard for everybody involved in the championship, but especially the riders´, continued Rossi. `The main thing for me is to focus on the job at hand and keep my concentration to the very end´. Whilst unfamiliarity with the circuit presents an extra complication for many of the riders, this weekend presents an ideal chance for rookies like d´Antin Ducati rider Ruben Xaus to make an impression. `I´m happy because this is the first time this season that everybody has to learn the circuit´, said Xaus. `I´m not making excuses but usually the other guys have more experience than me at the circuits and the fact they don´t should make like a little easier for me´. Xaus´ team-mate Neil Hodgson was one of three riders to check out the local form of transport today, swapping horsepower for camel power in a promotional event at the circuit. The British rider was joined on a short camel ride by Shinya Nakano and Loris Capirossi, who reported positive progress from the two broken bones in his foot sustained in a first-corner pile-up at Motegi. John Hopkins, who broke three ribs in the same crash, will also ride this weekend although his Suzuki team-mate Kenny Roberts, another rider involved in the incident, confirmed today from his home in California that he is likely to be out for the rest of the season. Roberts is replaced by British Superbike regular and MotoGP test rider Yukio Kagayama. Roberts´ brother Kurtis also misses out through injury and is replaced at Proton Team KR by James Haydon, whilst Chris Burns has not travelled and will again be substituted by Youichi Ui, who rides alongside James Ellison at WCM. Meanwhile, Aprilia have decided not to substitute the injured Shane Byrne for this race, meaning Jeremy McWilliams will be their lone rider.
